Paperwise has one bar at the bottom of the screen: Home · Tools · Scan · + · Account. Everything starts from one of these five.

What it is

Button What it opens
Home Your recent items, your folders, the shelves Paperwise sorts things onto, and More (All items, Shared links, Recently deleted). See Home.
Tools Every tool in one grid: Capture, Edit, Pages, Convert and AI. See The Tools screen.
Scan The camera, straight away, to scan paper. One tap, no menu. See Scan a document.
+ The Add sheet, with every other way in: a photo, an ID card, an ID photo, a book, a whiteboard or a screen, a QR code, notes, checklists, cards, files, Merge, Collage and more. See The Scan button and the + sheet.
Account Your plan, then one list: Backup and sync, Private vaults, Lock and privacy, Share and receive, AI, Scanning and About. Your avatar at the top of Home opens it too.

The tab you’re on is highlighted. Back always leads to Home.

The bar is on Home, every shelf, every folder, All items, Tools and Account. It steps aside while you select items, and inside a document, which has its own toolbar: Edit, Markup, Ask, Share and More.

Where other things are

  • Search is at the top of Home, under its title. It never searches private vaults.
  • A document’s tools are in its own toolbar at the bottom of the document.
  • Private vaults aren’t in the bar, on purpose: a button there would tell anyone holding your iPhone that vaults exist. Open them with the lock button at the top of Home (if you turned it on) or from Account → Lock and privacy → Open Private vaults. See Private vaults.

Step by step

Scan something

  1. Tap Scan.
  2. Hold your iPhone over the page. See Scan a document.

Add something else

  1. Tap +.
  2. Pick what to add. Open a folder first if you want it filed there.

Find a tool

  1. Tap Tools.
  2. Tap the tool. If it works on a document, pick the document from the list that opens.

On iPad

On a wide iPad screen there’s no bottom bar. Home, Tools and the rest are in the sidebar, Account is at the foot of the sidebar, and Scan and + sit at the top of the list. See The iPad sidebar.

Free and Pro

The bar and everything it opens are free. Some tools and features inside are Pro; they carry a Pro pill.

Privacy

Moving around the app sends nothing anywhere. With VoiceOver, every button in the bar is labelled (“Home”, “Tools”, “Scan”, “Add”, “Account”).
