Free and Pro
Paperwise is free to use with no time limit: scanning, search, Hidden and the encrypted iCloud backup are all free. Pro adds the AI helper, sync across iPhone and iPad, Forward by email, share links and extra privacy tools.
What it is
There are two plans. Your current plan shows at the top of Account: Paperwise Free or Paperwise Pro.

Free has no AI.
Pro’s AI limits
The AI helper comes with fair-use limits: 20 AI actions a day and 300 a month, and automatic naming of up to 100 items a day. Your usage shows in Account → AI helper → Usage and at the top of a document’s Ask menu. See AI limits and usage.
When to use it
Stay on Free if you use one iPhone and want a private, searchable place for your papers with a backup. Choose Pro if you want your vault on your iPad too, AI that names, sorts and reads documents for you, an email address for bills, or links to share documents safely.

See which plan you’re on
- On the Vault, tap your avatar to open Account.
- The card at the top says Paperwise Free or Paperwise Pro.
Try or buy Pro
- In Account, tap Upgrade on the plan card. Or tap any feature marked Pro.
- Choose Yearly (3 days free, then $59.99/year) or Monthly ($9.99/month).
- Tap Start free trial or Subscribe.

Free and Pro
Pro on more than one device
Your subscription belongs to the Apple ID you bought it with. When you’re signed in to the same Paperwise account, Pro bought on your iPhone also turns on sync and Forward by email (the Inbox) on your iPad. Everything else in Pro, such as the AI helper, extra Hidden spaces, the emergency passcode and the disguised icon, follows the App Store purchase on each device: on your iPad (or a new iPhone, or after reinstalling Paperwise), with the same Apple ID, tap the plan card in Account, then Restore purchases.
Privacy
Privacy isn’t only in Pro. The app lock, Hidden with one space, its private camera and the encrypted iCloud backup are free. Pro adds more privacy tools: extra Hidden spaces, an emergency passcode, share links and a disguised icon, plus sync and Forward by email.
With the AI helper, nothing goes to AI until you allow it. Before AI first reads a document we tell you it isn’t fully private. With Pro’s “Name and sort new scans” on, you’re told once for everything you add afterwards. See What AI sees and keeps.
What if…
What if I see “(Pro)” next to something?
That feature is part of Pro. Tapping it shows what Pro adds and lets you subscribe.
What if I bought Pro but the app still says Free?
Tap the plan card in Account, then Restore purchases. Make sure you’re using the same Apple ID you bought with.
What if I stop paying for Pro?
Your documents stay. Pro features stop when the subscription ends; for example, sync stops uploading. See Subscribe, restore and cancel.
