Save to Paperwise from any app

You don’t have to open Paperwise to add something to it. In almost any app, tap Share and choose Save to Paperwise. The item is added to your vault (or a folder, or Hidden) the next time Paperwise opens, without you having to do anything else.

What it is

Save to Paperwise is Paperwise’s entry in the iPhone’s share sheet. It accepts:

files and PDFs (from Files, Mail attachments, your bank’s app…),
photos and videos (from Photos),
links (from Safari and other apps),
text.

You can save up to 20 items at a time, each up to 200 MB.

What becomes of each item:

You share	It becomes	Shelf
A photo or video	A photo item, kept as it is	Photos and videos
A PDF or any other file	A file item, kept as it is	Files (or a more specific one with Pro’s AI naming)
A link or text	A note	Notes

Paperwise picks up what you saved when you next open it or come back to it. It files the items quietly in the background: they appear in All items and on their shelf, and nothing interrupts what you were doing.

When to use it

An invoice PDF in Mail: save it straight from the attachment.
A boarding pass or ticket from an app.
A photo of a receipt in your camera roll, kept as a photo.
A web page you want to remember with your papers.

Step by step

Save something

In the other app, tap Share (the square with an arrow).
Scroll the row of apps and tap Paperwise. If you don’t see it, tap More and turn it on.
The Save to Paperwise sheet shows what you’re saving (for example “2 photos and 1 PDF”).
Optional: type a Title (optional).
Under Save to, choose where it goes:
- Vault: your vault (it shows in All items and on its shelf),
- one of your folders,
- Hidden, if you’ve set Hidden up.
Tap Save.
Open Paperwise. Your items are there.

Save to Hidden

Choose Hidden under Save to. The sheet says “Encrypted for Hidden. Open Hidden in Paperwise to see it.” The share sheet encrypts the item for Hidden without being able to open anything already in Hidden. It waits, still encrypted, until you next open Hidden, then appears there. It never shows up in your vault.

Hidden appears in the list only once you’ve set Hidden up in Paperwise. See Set up Hidden.

Free and Pro

Save to Paperwise is free.

Pro: with Name and sort new scans on, AI names and types the items you save, so they land on the right shelf. Items saved to Hidden are never sent to AI.

Privacy

The share sheet doesn’t use the internet and doesn’t send anything to our server. It hands your items to Paperwise on this iPhone.
Items you save to Hidden are encrypted by the share sheet as they’re saved and stay encrypted in Hidden.
Items saved to your vault or a folder are also encrypted by the share sheet while they wait for Paperwise. Once filed, they’re encrypted by Paperwise with its own key, kept on this iPhone only; Face ID guards the app when the app lock is on.
Saving a photo from Photos copies it. The original stays in Photos (and in iCloud Photos, if it’s on) until you delete it there.

Tips

Move Paperwise to the front of your share sheet: in the share sheet, tap More, then Edit, and drag Paperwise up.
To save a web page as a document rather than a link, print it to PDF first (Share → Print, then share the preview to Paperwise).
To bring files in from inside Paperwise instead, use + → From Files. See Import from Files.

What if…

Open Paperwise once after installing it. Then in the share sheet tap More and make sure Paperwise is turned on. Some apps only share text or links, not files.

What if it says “You can save up to 20 items at a time.”?

Share fewer items, then share the rest in a second go.

What if it says “Paperwise saves files up to 200 MB.”?

One of the files is too big. Share a smaller or compressed copy.

What if it says “Open Paperwise once, then try again.”?

The share sheet needs Paperwise to have been opened at least once on this iPhone. Open it, then share again.

What if my item isn’t in Paperwise?

Open Paperwise (or bring it back to the front); items are picked up then. Check All items, the folder you chose, or Hidden. An item for Hidden appears only after you open Hidden.
