Timestamp
Timestamp puts a date in a corner of every page of a document: the day you scanned it, or today. It stays on the document like a watermark, and you can change or remove it at any time. The pages themselves don’t change.
What it is
You choose:
- Scan date (the day the document was made) or Today (the day you save the timestamp; it doesn’t move on tomorrow).
- Date format: the chips show today’s date in each format, for example
29/10/2026,10/29/2026,2026-10-29or29 Oct 2026. - Show time: adds the time, like
14:32. - Corner: Bottom right, Bottom left, Top right or Top left.
- The colour: Orange or Black.
The page above the controls shows the timestamp where it will be. Use the page strip to look at other pages.
A timestamp and a watermark can be on the same document. Each has its own editor, and removing one keeps the other.
When to use it
- Proof of when you received a letter or a delivery note.
- Dating receipts for an expense claim.
- Keeping track of versions of a document you scan again and again.
Step by step
- Open the document and tap Markup → Timestamp. Or tap Tools, then Timestamp under Edit, and pick the document.
- Choose Scan date or Today, a date format, Show time if you want it, a corner and a colour.
- Tap Save (“Timestamp saved”), or the arrow next to it and Save as copy to put the timestamp on a copy only.
Change or remove it
Open Markup → Timestamp again. It opens with your current choices. Change them and tap Save, or tap Remove timestamp (“Timestamp removed”).
Free and Pro
Timestamp is free.
Privacy
- The timestamp is added on your iPhone. Nothing is sent to our server.
- It’s saved with the document, encrypted by Paperwise with its own key, and travels with sync and the encrypted iCloud backup like the rest of the document. Every device shows the same date and time.
- It’s drawn into every PDF, JPG and PowerPoint file you share and every page you print. Word, Excel and Text files are built from the page text, so they leave it out.
Tips
- Copies keep the timestamp: Duplicate, Split, Merge, Collage and Save as copy all carry it over.
- Documents in a private vault have no Markup tools, but a timestamp a document already had stays on it in the vault.
- Pages you add later get the timestamp too.
What if…
What if the date is wrong?
Scan date is the day the document was made in Paperwise, not the date printed on the paper. Pick Today, or remove the timestamp.
What if I don’t see the timestamp in a Word file?
Word, Excel and Text files carry the text of the pages, not the page images, so they have no timestamp. Share a PDF instead.
